What we do

What we do

We offer a range of training sessions throughout the week, as well as competitions that enable every player to take part, no matter what their ability, aim or desire.

Training sessions

We offer a range of training sessions across the week for players aged from 8 years of age.

Some of our sessions are open to all players whilst some are open to players who are representing a specific team.

Please contact us to find out the times of sessions where we currently have spaces.

In-club tournaments

We run regular in-club tournaments which all players are eligible to take part in, regardless of experience or ability.  We do not hold trials for players who attend our open sessions as we strongly believe everyone should have the opportunity to play competitive basketball.

These in-club tournaments will see all our players - from National League to our newest players - mixed together in teams. We have found that this  provides great opportunity for players to gain playing experience, have fun, be great role models and make new friends.

Different levels of competition

Our competitive basketball opportunities cover three different levels

- Dorset Basketball Association... provide local competitions for juniors and seniors

- South West Regional League - more competitive opportunities for players wishing to progress

- National League - the highest level of competition available

Basketball camps

Every season we run a range of basketball camps. Short two day `Skill Camps' are run during the school half-term, Christmas and Easter Holidays. These shorter camps will have a specific focus on two or three key areas of the game which will vary throughout the year and be dependant upon the group of players attending.

Every summer holiday we run our well establish week long summer camp - these camps have been running for over 20 years and always sell out well in advance of the camp beginning.

Camp 1 is for players in school years 7 to 9 and is open to all, this camp is normally held during the first full week of the school summer holidays.

Camp 2 is later in August and sees our SWRL and NBL players come together for a 'pre-season camp' which allows them to sharpen their skills for the coming season.

Different levels of competition

The highlight of the year for many players, our annual Summer League competitions runs throughout the second half of the summer term.  Five weeks of action across four different age groups sees players compete in teams for the coveted Summer League Championship.

Teams are selected so they are as even as possible and limited to a number of players to allow plenty of playing time for all, in a competitive environment. Each team has a coach that will work with them over the course of the tournament and newly qualified officials also gain experience working these games alongside experienced officials.

Coaching, refereeing and table officiating courses

Each season Dorset Storm runs several different Basketball England courses. This allows players to gain qualifications that benefit them in many ways including - being able to add these qualifications to their CV, college and UCAS forms; allow them to earn money whilst supporting basketball development;  enable them to 'put back' into the sport they enjoy and enhance a range of skills including teamwork, communication and their self-confidence.
