Storm win three in a day15th May 2006 In the weekend tournament that was held at Rossmore Leisure Centre in Poole, Storms teams came away victorious in three of the four matches. Unfortunately the Under 14s II lost the opening match to Bridport, but they made up for that defeat by blowing away Strom I when the clubs two Under 14s team met later in the day. Storm I defeated Bridport in their match, despite being without the injured Jonathon Baker. In the final game, Storms Under 16s ran out winners against Bridport in a match that showed everybody just how much they have improved over the course of the season. Hi all,
Well done to all of you who played yesterday. It’s great to be able to field three teams full of enthusiasm and energy. There was plenty of good basketball being demonstrated, especially at the defensive end of the court.
Just a reminder that the Under 16s will have another tournament in a few weeks time, details will be given out at training shortly. The Under 14s are now done until July so that we have time to fit in our AGM and Awards Presentation Night, along with the Skittles Evening (see attached if you haven’t returned your form yet).
Places are going fast on the summer camp, there are only a few places left on the senior side so please contact Jill a.s.a.p. if you intend coming. The National League coaches certainly believe that this is a pre-requisite of wanting to play National League Basketball. Their message is just think about how many weeks it would take you to amass 45 hours of basketball coaching – well, it works out at over three months of regular training sessions. It’s a chance to improve dramatically in just one week and really become a much better player.
Staying on camp, we are please to announce that we have been able to confirm our new head coach for camp. For now though she/he will remain anonymous but I can tell you that they were originally a mathematician and philosopher, though in recent years have become more interested in sports sociology. They have also spent a good deal of time in their basketball career in Europe, most recently at the Belgrade School of Basketball. This season they have been part of the club coaching team that has had three of its players represent England at the Commonwealth games in March, where the team won a Bronze medal. More information soon…
A black New York tee-shirt went missing yesterday, and a red and blue reversible top (with a number 6 on it) is still missing. If you have either please could you drop it in next week at training.
Many thanks,
Dorset Storm Basketball Club Coaching Staff
Local League Matches 3rd May 2006
Just a reminder that there are some more matches for the Under 14s and Under 16s Local League teams coming up on Sunday 14th May. On this occasion, all the matches will be between Storm and Bridport Evolution. The matches will be at Rossmore Leisure Centre with the schedule looking like this:
Age Tip-off Home Away
U14s 11.15am Storm II vs Bridport
U14s 12.30pm Storm I vs Bridport
U14s 1.45pm Storm I vs Storm II
U16s 3.00pm Storm vs Bridport
Please observe that there is a slight change in the playing schedule to normal with Storm I and II being moved round slightly for the Under 14s. Notes will be handed out this week at training, so be prepared to let us know if you are, or are not available. Message from Jill25th April 2006
Just a reminder that on Saturday morning neither Luke nor I will be at training. As we advised you last weekend, a coach called Isabel has agreed to cover the session for us. It is therefore really important that any money, camp forms etc. that you bring this week are in a clearly named envelope.
The Under 18s and Under 16s National League teams need to remember that there is no training this Thursday. However the Under 15s National League team have their last session this week.
Also very big congratulations to Jonathan and Henrys mum Carol who completed the London Marathon last Sunday. Carol is collecting money for Poole Hospital Wish Appeal and it is not too late for anybody wishing to sponsor her to do so. Please put any donation you would like to make in an envelope and mark it ‘Carol – London Marathon’. We are all very proud of you Carol and I am sure not many of us would have attempted it ourselves.
Many thanks,
Jill Welcome to our new website...18th April 2006 Welcome to our website - we hope you like the new look. If you have something that you would like to contribute or an article you would like us to publish, then please contact us – all help will be gratefully received. Perhaps you have seen a website you think we should have a link to? If so, let us know.
Emailed reminder (11 April)11th April 2006
Hi all,
Just a reminder that there is no basketball this Saturday – we are having an Easter break!
We would like to thank all the players who have taken part in the recent local league friendly games we have organised. You were a credit to yourselves and the club – we also hope that you have learnt something from the experience. There are still a few more to come and they are on the calendar.
The important thing to remember is that you need to put in 100% at training where the majority of your improvement will be, not just in games.
Special thanks to all the players who have helped officiate at the games especially Adam, Louis, Steven, Michael, James C, James H, Reece, Chris and Henry. It was lovely yesterday having so much help – you will make us redundant soon!
We are already holding meetings in the Solent Area and working towards an organised Local League for next season. Hopefully there will again be some chances for you to work towards young official awards.
Summer camp deposits of £20.00 are now being taken and the coaching staff line up is beginning to take shape. If we receive your deposit by Friday 26th May 2006 you will be given a £5.00 discount off the final price. As you read this the brochure is being finalised and printed.
National League trials are on Sunday 23rd April. Remember it is a big commitment for you and your parents so it does not suit everyone.
Have a lovely sunny (?) Easter break and we will see you soon.
Many thanks.
Storm Under 14s I defeat Whiteley Oaks20th April 2006 In the recent Under 14s tournament held at Rossmore LC the Under 14s I reversed the defeat that they suffered to Whiteley Oaks earlier in the season. The team put in a fantastic performance and, they come from behind eventually winning by just one point in overtime. To read the tournament report, click here.
